Nexfibre announces Giffgaff as second wholesale customer

Move further demonstrates the strength of company’s XGS-PON-enabled network.

Nexfibre has announced that Giffgaff has joined as its second wholesale customer.

The move marks a significant milestone in the company’s wholesale strategy and further demonstrates the strength of its XGS-PON-enabled network.

Giffgaff has announced it’s launching a new full fibre broadband product. Currently in its trial phase, Giffgaff broadband will be using XGS-PON on Nexfibre’s network, later expanding across the upgraded Virgin Media O2 footprint.

The partnership underscores Nexfibre’s mission to build and operate an advanced, full-fibre wholesale platform for ISPs across the UK and, in conjunction with Virgin Media O2, become a national-scale challenger to BT Openreach.

It follows the news earlier this year that Nexfibre had reached a key milestone of delivering its full-fibre network to two million premises.

“We’re delighted to welcome Giffgaff on board as our second wholesale customer,” said Rajiv Datta, CEO of Nexfibre. “This partnership validates our investment in future-ready XGS-PON infrastructure and reflects our commitment to building a high-quality full-fibre wholesale platform. Giffgaff is a great example of a brand that understands the consumer benefits of our network – capable of symmetrical speeds and low latency to deliver a seamless user experience.”

“Full-fibre infrastructure is the backbone of the UK’s digital ambitions, driving growth and innovation across every sector, and in turn an important enabler to deliver a stronger, more inclusive economy.”

Ash Schofield, CEO of Giffgaff, said, “Broadband is a natural evolution for us as a connectivity brand. We know people are frustrated with their current broadband offering so we’re committed to bringing together the best tech, with the experience of the people that matter most – our customers – to build better broadband.”
