The study found that almost two in five of those surveyed planned to move roles in the next year.
The survey, which was carried out by Censuswide and involved 100 IT decision makers in UK enterprises with 250-plus employees, revealed that more than one in four (28 per cent) of IT leaders changed their job in 2023, and 35 per cent have interviewed for another job in the past six months.
The survey also revealed that more than half (51 per cent) of UK IT leaders would leave their current position if their organisation failed to invest in emerging technologies like AI.
"The movement of senior decision makers, and especially in business-critical roles like IT, creates huge demand and pressure on organisations. Such gaps also have a wider impact in terms of their ability to maintain operations, complete projects and deliver services,” said Niamh Cray, chief people officer, Auxilion. "When it comes to talent and recruitment, we believe businesses should adopt a hybrid approach where they incorporate contractors and resourcing partners. A more flexible model like this means organisations can move swiftly to plug any skills gaps that arise and minimise disruption."
Cray added, "This data also sends a clear message to business leaders that a lack of investment in emerging technologies could see you lose talent across the organisation, which can be very disruptive and damaging. Businesses need to embrace technology and leverage its capabilities to stimulate growth."
