Abbey Telecom Goes Bananas

An order for nearly a thousand bananas has resulted in a new business deal being struck between two Lancashire firms.

When Ribble Farm Fare took the unusual order for the potassium rich fruit from neighbouring Abbey Telecom for its popular ‘hangover relief pack’ for guests at the BIBAs awards, the two companies ended up engaging in dialogue about telephone system requirements.

Now the fresh food producer has taken delivery of a new telephone system upgrade courtesy of Abbey Telecom.

With customer orders at the local family run business on the rise, the company asked Abbey Telecom to undertake a site review and make recommendations to implement new lines to field orders on a 24/7 basis.

Ribble Farm Fare general manager Marina Goodman said: “We knew we needed to look at our existing telephone systems so customers can always get through and place an order.

“The source of the order for 900-odd bananas surprised us and piqued our interest. So it was natural to speak to Abbey Telecom when it came to improving our telecoms capabilities.

“We get calls from hotels, restaurants and all sorts of customers at any time of day, and multi user voicemail was an absolute must to take new orders.”

Abbey Telecom sales manager Danny Pickin added: “Ribble Farm Fare has a rapidly expanding site and needed an upgrade to its telephone system, not least to handle out of hours calls so that they never miss an order.

“As part of the new package, we have opened up 8 new lines for them which means multiple orders can be made simultaneously and there are no frustrated chefs out there getting an engaged tone.”
