This brings the total number of exchange areas notified for ‘stop sell’ to more than 670 exchanges covering around 5.9 million premises.
In these areas, approximately 287,000 premises have been provided 12-months’ notice to migrate to products that allow them to have a digital line. The company has announced additional stop sell exchanges every quarter as it continues to upgrade its networks.
An Openreach spokesperson explained, “The shift from copper to fibre will be every bit as significant as the move from analogue to digital and black and white tv to colour.
“That’s why over the next four years, we’ll be upgrading some 12 million analogue lines – including the now ageing traditional landline telephone service – to new digital ones.”
