Wayfinder has unveiled Version 6 of its eponymous satnav offering in the UK. The upgrade means Wayfinder can claim to be the first company to offer a world map service on mobile phones, enabling users to view and zoom in on any location on the globe.
Wayfinder 6 runs on Java enabled phones, Windows Mobile and Symbian. Around 50 handsets are currently supported and users just need a GPRS or 3G Internet subscription with their network provider.
As well as traditional navigation services, extras including regular weather checks, city guide book, and a currency converter.
Incidentally, we’ve come across a cool freebie that Wayfinder has made available for download to Symbian and Windows Mobile handsets (BlackBerry and Java to follow). It’s called Wayfinder Earth and gives you worldwide maps in your phone for free-search, browse, zoom in and out, find points of interest, check the weather and more.
Great fun, though you’ll need to pay for anything really useful like route-mapping. You can download it from www.wayfinderearth.com.
