Is it a tablet? Is it a smartphone? No! It’s a smartlet! Well that’s what I’m going to call it, anyway. Or maybe a tabphone? Whatever, this is a rather nice looking tablet-come-smartphone from Samsung, coining itself a new category in the smart-thing zone.
The Galaxy Note is just about small enough to prevent you from looking daft when you take a call on it, but big enough to be great for playing with media and surfing the web, like a smartphone.
Due out in the fourth quarter some time (most likely with time to spare for Samsung to get some serious marketing done pre-Crimbo), the Galaxy Note has a 5.3 inch display, featuring HD Super AMOLED. Taking full advantage of the large display, users will be able to do more tasks to create and consume more, with minimum scrolling and screen transitions, while on the go.
Measuring just 9.65mm thick, the Galaxy Note fits comfortably in a pocket. An advanced pen-input technology, called the S Pen, is combined with the Galaxy Note’s full touchscreen to introduce a new type of user experience. Through this, consumers are able to freely capture and create ideas on the go, and draw and send handwritten images and notes via text message, email, and Samsung’s ChatON communication service.
It also features S Memo, a multimedia app designed to record all forms of user-created content. Pictures, voice recordings, typed text, handwritten notes or drawings can all be captured via a single application and converted to a memo, to be edited, annotated and shared as desired.
The 1.4GHz dual-core processor ensures the device is fast, plus lightning fast network speeds are enabled through HSPA+ and LTE compatibility. Plus, Samsung is enhancing the enterprise capabilities of the Galaxy Note through its partnership with Juniper Networks, whose Junos Pulse SSL VPN provides secure remote access to corporate network resources.
