O2 has recently changed its position on calls to non-geographical numbers with 0845, 0870 and 0800 calls no longer bundled. The change enables consumers to get out of their contracts.
O2 was the last network to allow 0845, 0870, and 0800 numbers to be included in bundled minutes within contracts. The operator has been sending text messages to consumers informing them that this will no longer be the case.
O2 will now be charging 20 pence per minute for all 08 numbers, including 0800 freephone calls, except for 0871 numbers which which are charged at 35 pence per minute.
Consumers who signed contracts after March have already been paying for calls to the non-geographical numbers, never included in their bundles. Consumers who were with O2 before March this year have received notification of the new charges via text message. They then have one calendar month to cancel their contract with O2, which the network confirms they will honour.
