Go-faster low-power less-space memory chip from Samsung

Networks & Network Services

Samsung’s semiconductor arm has announced a multifunction memory chip, branded OneDRAM, which should appear in handsets (and other gadgets) later this year. OneDRAM replaces separate chunks of SRAM and DRAM memory; this “sharply increases” data throughput speeds – by a factor of five, Samsung claims – and requires 30% less power than current chipsets. The technology also means handsets need contain fewer chips, potentially making them cheaper to produce and smaller.
