Zen hunts for new partner head

Stephen Warburton to focus on the consumer side of his dual role.

Zen Internet is “actively recruiting” a new managing director for its partner division.

Stephen Warburton, the incumbent managing director of both Zen’s partner and consumer divisions, will focus on running the consumer division.

Warburton will also continue in his role as executive sponsor for the environment.

The decision to split Warburton’s responsibilities comes shortly after Zen announced it will invest in becoming an altnet aggregator.

Warburton (pictured above) commented, “It does feel a bit strange to be advertising part of my job, but it has been a wonderful 24 years in our partner business. I have had the privilege of leading a brilliant team and working with some great partners who have played such a key role in our success. I am enormously grateful to every one of you for such an enjoyable journey, thank you.

“Of course, I will be staying at Zen and will continue to be part of our exec team championing our partner business to make the most of the exciting opportunities we have in the decade of full fibre.”

Zen’s partner division was launched in 2001 and has grown to a community of 470 partners. The company’s partners now generate revenue of £30 million, which accounts for 25 per cent of Zen’s revenue.

The company has two routes to the indirect market. It serves 390 Layer 3 partners, generating revenue of £20 million, who buy a white label service from Zen. Zen provides the systems, network infrastructure, provisioning and support to the partner, with the partner providing sales, billing, first line support and customer premises equipment.

Zen also serves 80 Layer 2 providers, generating revenue of £10 million, where partners have their own systems and network infrastructure, and Zen offers a layer 2 handoff and API into its systems.
