"With more than 20 years of experience in the telecommunications industry, I’ve spent the majority of that time working with service providers to help them develop innovative IP-based services.
I have experienced first-hand, over the years, exactly how the cloud market is developing both across Europe and closer to home here in the UK. The latest figures from the Cloud Industry Forum in May 2015 showed that the UK cloud adoption rate has increased by 75% since 2010 and currently stands at a staggering 84% of all companies.
So why is it that some markets in this space are moving faster than others? There’s a striking difference in adoption and implementation between markets, with some segments, such as SMEs, far more receptive to cloud. However in positive news for all in the sector, cloud is now starting to break into the large enterprise market.
Looking forward to the future of the market, there are definitely some upcoming issues we are likely to see in the sector over the coming months and years. One of the main concerns we may come up against is that as cloud has broken down the barriers to entry for new IT solutions, it has also resulted in an explosion of rogue or ‘mode 2’ IT.
This is causing problems in businesses across the country by impacting on workforces to the point where productivity is dropping. As a sector, we need to be thinking about the answer to this challenge and how we come together as an industry to solve this growing issue."
