The UK and the US have declined to sign an international agreement on AI at a summit in Paris.
The AI Action Summit is being held at the Grand Palais in Paris, with heads of state and government and business leaders coming together to discuss AI and democracy, the environmental impact of AI, information manipulation, and cybersecurity.
Government participants represent 80 countries including the UK, the US, China, India, and France. In addition, companies including Microsoft and OpenAI are in attendance.
As part of those discussions, an agreement on AI has been signed by 60 countries including France, Canada, China and India. That agreement commits to developing AI in a way that is transparent, safe, secure, trustworthy and sustainable.
The BBC is reporting that a Downing Street spokesperson said the UK would “only ever sign up to initiatives that are in UK national interests”.
