Speeds of up to 20 Meg broadband are being made available to a group of Orange home broadband customers already on the company’s fixed broadband network. Depending on the quality of the line and distance from the exchange, these customers will be able to be re-graded onto faster profiles and will be able to receive download speeds of up to 20 Meg - all for the same price as their current up to 8 Meg service. Those participating in the trial will also be supported by a specialised support team and a microsite has been created to help manage the process and keep customers informed of progress.
Speaking on the announcement, Asif Aziz, Director of Broadband and Home, Orange UK said: "This trial is an important step in enabling us to offer up to 20 Meg home broadband to consumers across our network. It is also testament to our ongoing commitment to evolve our fixed broadband service and ensure we offer customers a truly reliable user experience.”
The move follows the largest set of improvements to the company’s fixed line broadband service to date. Since this time, Orange has been identified as in the UK’s top three ISP’s for fixed line broadband download speeds by Moneysupermarket.com, and as fastest of the providers offering “up to 8Mbps” in speed tests conducted by price comparison site Broadband.co.uk in January and February 2009.
