On Saturday 8th September 13 brave Solar employees will be taking to the cycle paths for a non-stop cycling ride from Reading to Bristol. Starting at 6.00am the route will follow National Cycle Route 4 along the Kennet and Avon Canal starting at the River Thames in Reading and finishing at the Floating Harbour in Bristol. The group have set themselves a goal of 10 hours to complete the challenge.
This year they will be raising money for Basic Needs and have set a target of £5,000. http://www.basicneeds.org/
BasicNeeds is an international charity that supports people with mental illnesses and epilepsy as they overcome the stigma and abuse received from their community.
There are 450 million people in the world suffering from mental disorders and, in poorer countries, up to 90% have no access to treatment at all. BasicNeeds is unique in tackling the problem by improving the existing treatment services and simultaneously nurturing self-help groups so that mentally ill people are given the power to change their own lives.
People’s livelihoods are supported which has a threefold effect: a family’s poverty is reduced; the person’s self-esteem and recovery is improved; and the community’s view of that person is transformed. In this way, BasicNeeds has reached out to more than 100,000 mentally ill people in 11 countries, and is just getting started on a new project in Gloucestershire.
Please show your support for the cyclists and this wonderful charity by donating as much as you can to our online fundraising page found here: https://mydonate.bt.com/fundraisers/solarcharity1
