Ofcom proposes reduction in licence fees for spectrums

Changes could reduce costs for MNOs by £40 million annually.

Ofcom has proposed changes that could reduce the costs paid by mobile network operators (MNOs) to use certain spectrum bands by around £40 million annually.

MNOs are charged annual licence fees for the use of three spectrum bands, which currently sit at around £320 million a year.

Ofcom is proposing a 21 per cent reduction in the licence fees for two spectrums and a 12 per cent increase for the third, which could potentially save mobile network operators millions of pounds every year.
