Ofcom has confirmed its decision to amend regulations regarding the use of short range radar (SRR) equipment in vehicles.
The Wireless Telegraphy (Automotive Short Range Radar) (Exemption) Regulations 2013 allow certain SRRs in cars to be used in the 24 GHz band without the need for a spectrum licence.
Ofcom has amended the regulations so that these licence exemptions continue to apply in the UK after the end of the transition period in the Withdrawal Agreement between the UK and the European Union at 11pm on 31 December 2020.
This update confirms short range radar equipment – including blind spot and collision radars and other driving assistance technologies that rely on spectrum – will continue to be permitted after Brexit.
