O2 expands its 5G network

O2’s 5G network is now live in Lincoln, and parts of Tyne & Wear and Surrey.

At a time when local families, communities and businesses are recovering from the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, O2 says that the continued rollout of its next generation network is crucial in building up the UK’s digital infrastructure to help people stay connected and support the economy.

Brendan O’Reilly, CTO at O2, said, “We’re excited to be switching on our 5G network across three new areas today, which will unlock the exciting benefits of next generation connectivity for customers and businesses.

“At O2, we’re proud to be the UK’s number one mobile network for customers. As we continue our 5G rollout at pace we are investing around £2 million a day in our network to ensure our customers can stay connected to the people they love and businesses can survive and thrive as Britain looks to rebuild following Covid-19.”

O2 customers with 5G-enabled devices will now be able enjoy the benefits of fifth generation connectivity in the following areas:

  • Tyne & Wear
    • Jarrow
    • Blaydon
    • Washington
    • Tynemouth

  • Surrey
    • Chipstead
    • Staines
    • Weybridge

  • Lincoln

O2 says it is also investing £2 million a day to improve its 4G network, which is now available in over 19,200 towns, cities and villages. Improvements to its 4G network are part of its plans to bring connectivity to rural communities across Britain through the Shared Rural Network.
