NEC Corporation today announced that Mr. Kaoru Kenyoshi, senior expert, NEC Europe Ltd., was named vice-chairman of an International Telecommunication Union (ITU) Study Group for the upcoming term. This will be the second consecutive term that Mr. Kenyoshi serves in a leading position for a Study Group.

Mr. Kenyoshi was appointed vice-chairman of Study Group 11, which conducts research on the requirements and protocols for signaling systems. The appointment was made during the ITU’s world telecommunications standardisation assembly held from November 20 to 29, 2012, in Dubai.

In the next study period, Mr. Kenyoshi will help guide SG11’s study of signaling systems applied to emerging communication services such as “Future Networks” and the “Internet of Things”.

“Mr. Kenyoshi’s reappointment to a leading position in one of the ITU’s Study Groups reflects our continuous dedication to the support of global standardisation activities,” said Mr. Shunichiro Tejima, senior vice president, NEC Corporation. “NEC will capitalise on the knowledge and information obtained through this activity to accelerate time to market for products and services based on new technology standards.”

The ITU’s world telecommunications standardisation assembly is held once every four years. This year’s assembly is responsible for determining upcoming standardisation topics, approving standardisation structure, and selecting the chairpersons and vice-chairpersons of Study Groups that carry out designated standardisation activities for the upcoming study period.
