Linney explains: “The technology industry stands strong and is in a constant state of growth and development. A strong IT sector offers the potential to increase productivity across all industries, create jobs and improve GDP. Its role in the overall success of the UK economy should not be overlooked. The fact that a number of MPs, including Minister for Digital Industries Ed Vaisey and Shadow Business Minister Iain Wright, have already spoken in support of the manifesto is a great indication of the important role the IT and tech sector plays is being recognised at the highest levels.
“The manifesto specifically discusses the fundamental change in the approach to technology use in government and how drawing on experience from the private sector is the right direction to go in for the transformation of public sector IT. Completing the digitisation of major government transactions will be no easy feat but learning from and working with the private sector will be key to achieving this swiftly, securely and efficiently.
Linney continues: “My role as a member of the Cabinet Office SME panel involves advising on small and medium sized business issues, drawing from my experience in the private cloud and IT sector.
“Learning from the private sector will be a key factor in the maturity of the UK government’s IT strategy for public sector transformation, and the fact that MPs are recognising the importance of this following the publication of techUK’s manifesto is very encouraging and a clear indication that we’re heading in the right direction,” Linney concludes.
