SMS specialist Telsis today moved to calm the media storm that broke earlier this week over flaws in Apple iPhone text messaging security.
A French hacker exposed a weakness in iPhones which leaves users vulnerable to text phishing attacks from fraudsters masquerading as legitimate banks or other businesses.
But Telsis today pointed out that its SMS SafeGuard solution – in service with a number of forward-thinking operators long before the iPhone security flaw became a trending topic – stops such attacks before they can reach iPhones or any other types of handset.
Commented Telsis CEO and founder Jeff Wilson: “The iPhone is a popular handset but it’s not the only one with fundamental vulnerabilities. This is not just an iPhone problem – it’s an all phones problem – and we foresaw it and fixed it 10 years ago.
“While text messaging continues to grow in volume and remains a critical revenue earner for mobile operators, criminals will continually try to exploit it. Operators have a choice. They can leave their customers vulnerable to attack and risk sustaining serious damage to their brand, or they can deploy Telsis SMS SafeGuard, the world’s only truly comprehensive solution for the protection of both operators and their subscribers from the most common text frauds, including those which, like the iPhone attack, use spoofing of originating addresses.
“More importantly, Telsis SMS SafeGuard uniquely provides a further layer of protection using licensed technology that prevents message senders from faking the sending network and thereby avoiding protection algorithms based on the trusted network concept. Fraudulent and malicious messages are blocked, protecting phone users from attacks and protecting operators from loss of revenue and brand reputation.”
SMS SafeGuard is a constantly reviewed solution that enables operators to respond to new threats as they emerge and ensure that subscriber trust, and therefore the continued growth of text traffic and revenues, is maintained.
