These efforts were part of a company-wide campaign to offer significant fundraising support to local and national charities close to Intercity’s heart.
The company’s latest fundraising efforts saw three team members participate in the St Basils Big Sleepout and raise over £800. The non-profit organisation works with young people aged 16-25 who are homeless or at risk of homelessness. The annual Big Sleepout challenges people to spend one night sleeping outside in cardboard boxes at Birmingham’s Millennium Point building.
In addition, Intercity recently partnered with the Rookery School in Handsworth on a tree-planting initiative, which saw the team plant 120 trees with the help of 20 primary school children (pictured above).
Christina Pendleton, chief people officer at Intercity, explained, “Giving back is one of our key values at Intercity and we’re incredibly proud of our colleagues for engaging with the local community and supporting important causes.
“As we head into 2023, we look forward to continuing our work with the fantastic charities that we partnered with last year, while extending our support even further to other causes and new initiatives around the country.”
Emma Balan, head teacher at Rookery School, said, “We’re incredibly grateful to Intercity for involving our students in their tree planting initiative, which has taught them the importance of looking after the environment, and has encouraged them to continue to act responsibly with care for our planet.”
Intercity also donated £30,000 to the NSPCC to sponsor the charity’s Childline service for the day and a further £30,000 to a Ukraine crowdfunding appeal that helped fund a van and ambulances to deliver aid and supplies to Ukrainian people.
In addition, the company donated £10,000 to Ahead Partnership as a key sponsor of the “Growing Talent West Midlands Programme”, which supports the career development of young people in the region.
