The business is giving communication providers (CPs) 12-months notification that it will no longer be selling copper-based products/services in these exchanges.
This brings the total number of locations now notified for ‘stop sell’ to 712 exchanges covering a total of around 6.6m premises.
The stop sell programme is designed to encourage the adoption of new digital services over a full fibre connection.
BT is switching off the existing analogue phoneline platform – the PSTN, by the end of December 2025 and everyone in the UK will need to have a digital phone line before then.
To help prepare, Openreach will stop selling analogue phone lines to new customers by September 2023, and in a phased way, across the UK.
