Says the European Commission, with market penetration now at 103% of the population (it’s highest in Luxembourg at 171%, Italy with 134% and Lithuania at 133%).
Other nuggets from the Commission’s 12th annual report on telecoms: there are 45m 3G subscribers, more than 31m mobile users have made use of their right under EU law to keep their number when changing from one operator to another, operators generate around a third of their revenue outside their national territory, and there are 27 different regulatory systems within the EU --“cross-border competition, economic growth and consumer benefit could be enhanced substantially if the EU moved to a more consistent regulatory approach”.
