BSkyB is to trial Qualcomm’s MediaFLO broadcast mobile TV technology in Cambridge this summer. The MediaFLO trial will broadcast ten channels to 100 handsets. MediaFLO doesn’t have much presence outside the States; DVB-H seems the preferred format in Europe, and was the standard for the successful Nokia/O2 Oxford trial. The other contender is BT Movio’s DAB-based service, due to be launched by Virgin Mobile later this year.
