SAGEM MY501c

Networks & Network Services
Sagem is working hard at making sound low-end prepay-oriented handsets, and the my501c is the best of the recent crop of releases. It looks pretty good in a Samsung/Sony Ericsson circa 2005 kind of way, a solid clamshell with smart grey and silver packaging, compact dimensions and a good feel in the hand.
Inside the keypad is basically flat but with some swoopy detailing that differentiates the keys. The usual Sagem menu system works well enough. There’s a 1.3mp camera with 8x digital zoom and a couple of effects (sepia, negative, greyscale) plus video (obviously intended mostly for MMS). You get Bluetooth and a mini-USB socket for PC transfers and charging. And the MP3 player is surprisingly good – a rocker on the side for volume and track selection, 32MB on board plus a miniSD slot. The speaker is tinny, as you’d expect, but the earbuds aren’t bad.
There are no big downsides, apart perhaps from the rather small display – just as well it’s only 64K colours.
l A solid buy. The best Sagem we’ve seen for a while.
