According to Enpocket’s Mobile Media Monitor UK, with research carried out by Harris Interactive among a thousand mobile phone users in the UK, over a third of them now send and receive picture messages. That’s up from 21% at the same point last year and MMS usage over the past 12 months has increased most among the 18-34 age group.Women use MMS more than men – 40% against 33%. The positions are reversed when it comes to the mobile internet; 38% of men are users compared with 26% of women. Again it’s the younger age groups who are the main users – 61% of 18-24 year olds and 50% of 25-34 year olds say they have browsed the internet using their mobile at least once in the past three months. The mix of websites visited is interesting:
- ringtones 48%
- news 41%
- games 36%
- sports 33%
- weather 28%
- adult 6%
As Enpocket CEO Mike Baker put it: “mobile as a communications medium is getting richer and a lot more exciting”.
