Here’s another Series 60 Symbian 9.1 smartphone from Nokia, aimed squarely at the business market and probably destined to take over from the 6230i.
It’s compact, ergonomically styled, and has most of the connectivity you want – quadband GSM for international use, EDGE, Bluetooth, USB – plus useful extras like a 1.3mp camera with QCIF video capability (on the E50-1: the E50-2 is the camera-free model) and a generous 70MB internal memory (plus microSD card slot). And it isn’t expensive.
The build quality is generally superb, too, apart from a badly-made plastic on/off button and a rather coarse joystick. PC synchronization is seamless using USB, Bluetooth or Infrared. Using the rock-solid Nokia PC Suite (you can download it for free from the Nokia website) you can copy calendar, phonebook and messages to and from your computer.We were disappointed by the poor video recording, but maybe something has to give to keep the price down. Certainly that would account for the absence of 3G, HSDPA or WiFi.
