New mobile web development tools for mobile

Wapple Canvas is an interesting new collection of web-based site builder tools that simplify the job of creating a WAP site.

The designers claim that using point-and-click and drag-and-drop, Wapple Canvas makes it possible to get a mobile web site “up and running in hours”.

The user can also add ecommerce functions, mobile advertising, interactive elements such as polls and user feedback, and rich media content including games, videos and music.

The Wapple Delivery Engine automatically customises and renders mobile internet pages to individual browser-based mobile devices including close to 5,000 different handsets as well as PDAs and some hand-held games consoles such as the Sony PSP.

Usefully, it can also integrate with any number of mobile billing solutions, including PayForIt, MyGamma and Bango.

“The new generation of Wapple web-based tools means that even without technical knowledge, anyone can create and publish a powerful and dynamic mobile internet site,” says Rich Holdsworth, CTO and co-founder of Wapple.

John Leftwich, a former corporate VP at Microsoft and now Wapple’s chairman, reckons Wapple promises to do for the mobile Internet what products such as Dreamweaver and Frontpage did for the Web. As he points out, “It is likely that more people will access the Internet through their mobile phones than their PCs in 2007”.

Wapple Canvas package prices start at £500 per year. Info from www.wapple.net.
