Mercedes Benz’s Bluetooth-based Telephone Module in-car mobile phone system can now download text messages from a handset and display them on the dashboard display.
It also shows caller ID as well as a list of contacts, so that calls can be made directly from controls on the steering wheel. It uses the Bluetooth SIM Access Protocol, which is not found on many handsets – though it has been tested for compatibility with three Nokias and four Siemens models.
