John McFarnon, chairman of Unique Distribution and one of the more prominent long-time industry figures, is to leave the company. The issue appears to be commuting. Parent company IGB Group is investing £12m in a state-of-the-art distribution complex in Hayes, Middlesex, which is due for completion in August this year.
The official statement says “After careful consideration, John has decided that the daily commute to Hayes would not be conducive to his or his family’s best interests. He felt that now was the optimum time to make way for someone else to spearhead the further development of Unique’s future at its new location.”
IGB MD Tamraz Riaz said “We would like to thank John for his hard work and dedication during his productive and successful time at Unique Distribution.
Regrettably we understand his decision and wish him every success in his future.“
McFarnon will remain with the company until a successor can be found.
