Citigroup, MasterCard Worldwide, Cingular Wireless and Nokia has been trialling an innovative m-payments system in New York City. It uses Near Field Communication (NFC)-enabled mobile phones with MasterCard PayPass contactless payment capability; participants can pay for purchases at any merchant that accepts PayPass simply by holding their phone near a secure payment terminal.
