HTC, global leader in Windows-based smartphones, is setting up a substantial sales and marketing operation based in Europe to offer new and existing partners a quicker route to market.The new European leadership team is headed up by Florian Seiche, formerly Director of Devices for Orange Group. He wants to broaden the market: “The flexibility of the Windows Mobile platform combined with the opportunities of 3G means that [smartphones] are no longer the preserve of mobile enterprises but have the potential to hit the broader consumer market. HTC has a portfolio of Window Mobile 5.0 devices under the Qtek brand, many of which will be recognisable as the base for smartphones from O2, T-Mobile, Orange and others. As well as offering partner support, HTC has also set up distribution arrangement to retail under the Qtek name.
