Frinton-based independent Justin Humphry is taking to the high seas to raise money for Great Ormond Street Hospital and the RNLI. The ‘Jet ski charity challenge’ starts from Frinton beach around mid-day on 14th July and should take about two weeks as he travels round Britain in an anti-clockwise direction. Justin is aiming for stints of around four hours, meeting up with his land support van for refuelling and donation collection.
“Going round the UK the ‘wrong way’ is actually the more difficult thing to do,” said Justin. “But I like challenges.”
His jet ski is one of the latest Yamahas, purchased especially for the challenge and featuring the same 1000cc engine as the R1 bike.
Jim Herrington, marketing manager at Anglia Telecom, called the exercise “amazing”. As he said, “Taking time out from your business like this takes real dedication and commitment ... It’s a mammoth project.
“Justin hasn’t the resources of other well known people in the industry to make it a truly mega event, but the commitment, dedication and effort he has shown is a match for anybody.”
Justin is looking for sponsorship from the mobile industry. “I’ll take any support I can get,” he said. “It doesn’t have to be ‘stupid money’ and everything that’s raised does and will make a difference.” Check out the website at www.jetskicharitychallenge.co.uk.
