No action this week due to qualifying for the Euro 2008 at the weekend (poor show by England, let's hope they do better tonight). So this week we look at the most in-form players to give you guys an informed choice on making transfers.
Form is a player's average score per game, calculated from all games played by his club in the last 30 days. It's a good indicator of who is currently doing well and can be used to spot potential transfer targets.
Goalkeepers
Blackburn 'keeper Brad Friedel is top of the form tables, but Fantasy Managers should note that this is because of one high scoring gameweek, where he saved 2 penalties. Better buys are Bolton's Jussi Jaaskelainen and Thomas Sorensen of Aston Villa. Jaaskelainen beats Sorensen in the form tables, as he has kept 3 clean sheets in the last 3 games, whereas Sorensen only has 2. Sorensen however did pick up all 3 bonus points in Villa's game at Watford.
Defenders
By far the most picked player, never mind defender, is Chelsea's John Terry with nearly everyone selecting him bar a handful. Terry missed Gameweek 6, which lowers his form stats, however his team-mate Ricardo Carvalho is the in form Chelsea defender, thanks to his goal against Charlton and 2 clean sheets. Carvalho costs 7.2 compared to Terry's 8.3, so if you are looking for a Chelsea defender, he may a cheaper option. Arsenal's Emmanuel Eboue is also in good touch, with 2 assists and 2 clean sheets in the last 3 games. He currently costs just 6.5 and Arsenal's coming fixtures against Charlton and Watford, who both sit in the bottom 3 of the Barclays Premiership, could see him continuing his form.
Midfielders
Chelsea's Frank Lampard may have had some bad press in some quarters, but he is still the most in-form midfielder. In the last 3 games he has scored 2 goals and made 2 assists, and had he not missed a penalty in Gameweek 4, he would be the overall points leader. Lampard's cost (11.4) may be prohibitive for some, so maybe Managers could look to Arsenal's Cesc Fabregas (8.0). Fabregas may not have scored yet, but in the last 3 games he has made 2 assists and earned 8 bonus points, taking his bonus total to 10, the highest so far this season, showing that scoring is not everything. Everton's Tim Cahill's value is rising all the time, thanks to his form: 2 goals and an assist in the last 3 games, taking his season total to 3 goals and 2 assists.
Forwards
It may be no surprise to learn that Everton's Andrew Johnson is the most in form striker, thanks to 3 goals in the last 3 games. However, hot on his heels is Chelsea's Didier Drogba, with 2 goals and an assist in the last 3 games in the league and his first Chelsea hat-trick in the Champions League midweek. If you are looking to save money on a striker but still want him to play and earn points, then Reading's Kevin Doyle is worth a look. Reading are currently 8th in the Premier League, thanks in no small part to Doyle, who has scored 2 goals in the last 3 games, including one against Manchester United. Doyle costs just 6.6 and may be worth a shot.
