There’s a new HSDPA-ready data card, which will give speeds of up to six times faster than current 3G when T-Mobile launches its HSDPA service later this year. It’s also quad-band, so the card will work in the USA too. And it includes 12 months’ access to T-Mobile’s WiFi service in the UK (over 1,000 hotspots).
The data card is free on an 18 or 24 month Web’n’Walk professional contract.
We wondered about VoIP, using Web’n’Walk pro for Skype-type calls. Here’s the official comment from T-Mobile: “In our view, the [VoIP] technology is not yet of a consistent or high enough level of quality to offer a good customer experience on the T-Mobile network. This situation may change in the future, but for now we believe it is in the best interests of our customers to restrict the use of VOIP technology.”
T-Mobile also said it was aiming to provide an Instant Messaging solution “later in the year”, which might cover some of the pressure.
