3 Cuts Call Centre Staff

Networks & Network Services
3 is cutting over 150 staff over the next three months from its Glasgow call centre, from 540 down to less than 400, and moving call handling to an Indian centre.
According to 3 the St Vincent Street call centre in Glasgow was originally set up when the company had no retail presence and was building up its customer base. Now the network enjoys four million subscribers, 3 feels it needs more direct interaction with customers hence the move into retail, and the culling of staff. Calls not handled by the Glasgow centre will be dealt with by an office in Mumbai.

The network is supposedly looking to create 190 jobs around the country this year, and expects around 40 staff to relocate to other roles in the company, however this would leave around 120 employees facing redundancy.

A spokesman said: "A consultation process is already in place, and we have a firm commitment to re-deployment. Where it is not possible to find re-deployment opportunities within 3, we will be working in partnership with Scottish Enterprise and other relevant partners to help find roles for employees wherever we can."
